Two children, a 5-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, were brought to Ichilov Hospital early Tuesday morning after their mother threw them out of the fourth floor window of their Tel Aviv apartment before attempting to commit suicide by jumping after them.
The woman, a 38-year-old a veteran immigrant from Tajikistan, had been taking care of her children by herself since her husband left Israel and his family in 2007.
All three have broken bones from the fall. The mother and son are on respirators, in critical condition, and the girl is in stable condition and being treated for broken bones in her chest, hand and hips.
Police began an investigation of the incident, and are attempting to contact the children's father. The woman already admitted to throwing the children out the window before she jumped.
Police have reported that the woman was stopped by police a year ago, when she took a walk in Park Begin in Tel Aviv while intoxicated. The woman's neighbors told Israel Radio that on Thursday, they found the two children crying alone outside of the building, saying their mother would not let them in.
