After hate graffiti sprayed outside religious school, Shas MK warns politicians that their pronouncements have consequences.

Hate-graffiti, including swastikas, was discovered at the entrance to an Orthodox educational institution in Beersheba on Wednesday morning. Employees of the institution alerted police, who opened an investigation.

Shas MK Eli Yishai said that the graffiti was “the direct result of incitement against haredim.

“The public atmosphere against the haredi public and Torah students has gotten out of control and actually encourages harassment of the ultra-Orthodox public,” he said Yishai called on police to find the perpetrators and warned politicians that their behavior had consequences.

Likud Beytenu MK Shimon Ohayon said it was “shocking to see how, over and over, swastikas are spray-painted in Israel and abroad against Jews.”

Ohayon said that his proposed legislation, outlawing the use of Nazi symbols, was designed to eliminate such incidents and to make sure perpetrators were properly punished.

“The use of Nazi symbols, particularly swastikas, is anti-Semitic, racist and hurts the feelings of Holocaust survivors.

We must use all means at are disposal to prevent this,” he said.
