The Jerusalem Development Authority has announced the launch of a new initiative, called BioJerusalem, intended to bolster the local life science industry. BioJerusalem hopes to advance both biomedical sciences and the general economy of Jerusalem by attracting new companies, supporting the growth of existing companies and creating new job opportunities. The project's initial NIS 10 million budget will be supplemented by funds from the Jerusalem Economic Development Program. Jerusalem is currently home to nearly 90 life science companies, several world-class hospitals and academic institutions and the largest number of life science PhD students in the country.
