'Accused spy Ilan Grapel's remand extended by 15 days'

Egypt reportedly extends the dual Israeli-US citizen accused of spying for Israel as his interrogation by security forces continues.

Egypt on Saturday extended by 15 days the remand of accused Israeli spy Ilan Grapel, Army Radio reported. Egyptian security forces were continuing their interrogation of Grapel.
A report in the Egyptian daily Al-Masri Al-Youm on Wednesday said that Grapel had undergone his eighth interrogation on Tuesday, speaking to investigators in fluent Arabic without the need for an interpreter.

According to the report, an Egyptian legal source said that Grapel had arrived in Egypt as early as January 28th and was a permanent fixture at Cairo's Tahrir square, the heart of the revolution.
The report added that Grapel told officials at Cairo's airport that he was a reporter and stayed with other journalists in downtown Cairo in a hotel overlooking Tahrir square.
Grapel was arrested at his downtown Cairo hotel by Egyptian state security officers last Sunday on suspicion of working for Israeli intelligence to foment sectarian strife and gather intelligence on post-revolution Egypt.
The Emory University Law student, and dual Israeli- American citizen, traveled to Egypt this summer as part of his work for a charity helping African refugees.
His family, friends and the Israeli government have categorically denied that he was working as a spy in Egypt.
