The commander of Iran’s Basij paramilitary force has said that the Islamic Republic’s enemies are using satellite television to “infect” Iranian society.
Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi blamed Zionist-run satellite television channels for a variety of ills, including population decline in the West, according to Iran’s Fars News, which is affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards.
Speaking in Khorramabad at the start of the weekend, Basij leader blamed the Jews for the growth in satellite TV programming worldwide.
“Currently, 95% of the world’s mass media is monopolized by Zionists,” he said, adding that the Zionists were spending enormous amounts of money to spread satellite programming worldwide. Iran's enemies have also increased satellite TV programming in Persian in order to target Iran, he added.
Warning Iranians against watching satellite TV, Naqdi said that Muslims were not permitted to get news about Muslim countries from “kuffar [infidel] countries.”
“Is it necessary to hear the news from a half-naked woman?” Naqdi added.
According to Naqdi, the rise of satellite TV and the "Western lifestyle" had also resulted in “negative population growth” in the West. As a result, Naqdi said Western countries were forced to rely on Africa and Asia to maintain their economies.
The Basij leader said that Iran's enemies were also using satellite television to sow divisions between Sunni and Shia Muslims.
