The Palestinian Authority has cancelled a ceremony commemorating Dalal al-Mughrabi, the woman who took part in a terror attack on Israel's coastal road, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
Infiltrating Israel by sea, Mughrabi and her collaborators took over an
Egged bus in 1978 and ordered the driver to drive in the direction of
Tel Aviv, shooting at passing cars on the highway as the bus made its
way south from Haifa.
The bus was stopped by police near Tel Aviv, leading to a shoot-out in
which 35 civilians and terrorists, among them Mughrabi herself, were
killed.
To this day, Mughrabi is considered a heroic martyr in the Palestinian
territories. The commemoration ceremony, which had been scheduled for
Thursday, was reportedly meant to mark the naming of a traffic circle
near Ramallah after the deceased terrorist.
Mughrabi's sister Rashida, an officer in PA security forces, told
Reuters that the "decision to cancel the celebration came from official
channels."
