A large Egyptian army contingent deployed on Thursday night around the Israeli
Consulate in Alexandria after hundreds of protesters gathered there and called
on Egyptians to join in a “third intifada” against Israel, Israel Radio
reported.
Organizers of the protest in the country’s second-largest city
called on fellow Egyptians to join the Palestinians in a renewed armed struggle
against Israel.

During the tenure of deputy foreign minister Majallie
Whbee from 2007 to 2009, 30 percent of candidates admitted to the Foreign
Ministry’s prestigious diplomatic cadets program were members of minority groups
– Arabs, Druse, Beduin and Circassians.
The Alexandria-area tomb of Rabbi
Yaakov Abuhatzeira has been a destination for Israeli pilgrims in recent years,
and last winter at least 500 Israelis applied for visas to Egypt to visit the
tomb. The Moroccan rabbi and mystic was en route to the Holy Land in 1879 when
he fell ill and died in the Egyptian city of Damanhour.
