Letters from the Fatah Al- Aksa Martyrs Brigade were found in the possession of
two Palestinians arrested on Saturday for throwing Molotov cocktails, the IDF
said Sunday.
The two suspects attempted to firebomb an IDF position near
Hawara, south of Nablus, on Saturday, before being arrested, the army
added.
A search revealed three homemade grenades and three additional
Molotov cocktails ready for use.
The letters found in their possession
were signed by the Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade, and claimed responsibility for a
future attack on the settlement of Eilon Moreh. The letters stated that the
group “announced the act before it has been carried out, and if it is not
successful, it will be carried out again in a bigger way, at every minute and
every hour from this day on.”
The Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade, once an active
terror organization, responsible for dozens of deadly suicide bombings during
the second intifada, has gradually increased its involvement over the past two
months in an upsurge of West Bank violence.
Last month, security forces
announced the arrest of six terror suspects on suspicion of carrying out a
stabbing attack on a student in Beersheba during November’s eight-day conflict
with Hamas. The suspects are made up of Israeli Beduin from the Negev and
Palestinians from Hebron. According to the investigation, the Al- Aksa Martyrs
Brigade in the West Bank played a central part in organizing the attack.
