A bomb went off, reducing one car to little more than it’s scorched tires, while a second was damaged by its blast and burst into flame, in an Or Akiva parking lot Sunday morning.
The underworld car bombing moderately wounded a local father and son who were sitting in a vehicle next to the one that was targeted.
They were both rushed to Hillel Yaffe medical center by Magen David Adom paramedics for treatment.
MDA described the two victims as a 30-year-old man with injuries to his extremities and a 50-year-old man with shrapnel wounds.
While the bomb was a large one, the extent of the damage was largely the result of the fire that consumed the vehicle after the blast, police said.
Investigators from the Coastal District said that the father and son were not “known to police,” and there is no clear indication that they were targeted – however the possibility that the bomb was meant to be placed in their car has not been ruled out.
By mid-day police were able to secure a gag order on the case, preventing the publication of any details of the investigation or the identity of the two men injured on Sunday.
In December, a car bomb exploded in Rehovot, badly wounding a father and son who were driving in the vehicle.
The two were known to police and the blast was believed to have been a targeted hit.
