Arab hackers on Wednesday penetrated the Tel Aviv University Security Studies Program website, run by Prof. Yitzhak Ben-Israel, the head of the National Cyber Defense Authority. The website has resumed regular operations.
The hacking was ironic, since the National Cyber Defense Authority is supposed to protect Israel from such incidents. Moreover, Ben-Israel attended an Israel Association of Electronic and Software Industries convention Wednesday night, where he spoke on cyber security and hackers.
A group called the “Emperor Security Team” took responsibility for the hacking, which put images of Arabs burning US and Israeli flags and calls against Israel in various languages on the website.
“Like the previous hackings we’ve seen in recent weeks, also in this case we’re talking about an attack only for the purpose of harassment,” Ben-Israel said, “as there was only negligible damage to the activity of the Yuval Ne’eman Workshop for Science, Technology and Security. Obviously, this prods us to continue our research to raise the public’s awareness about cyber security.”
