An Eritrean national murdered his wife and baby son in an apartment in Ashkelon and then hanged himself in a forest on Wednesday, police said late on Wednesday night.
Police were called to the forest outside Ashkelon on Wednesday morning and found the body of the man who committed suicide, named as Emmanuel Brana.
“We found a cell phone in his pocket, and launched an intensive effort to track down family members,” a police spokeswoman told The Jerusalem Post early on Thursday.
Police were able to locate the man’s brother in Jerusalem, and brought him to Ashkelon. He led officers to his brother’s apartment, in which Emmanuel had murdered his wife, Tarkas Brana, and their baby. The two were found in the apartment having been stabbed to death, police believe.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 49-year-old man from Acre was shot to death overnight Wednesday.
The man, identified as Benny Bracha, was shot while driving his car in the eastern part of the city, police said.
He was apparently shot by a gunman onboard a motorcycle, and was found at around 2:30 a.m. in his car.
The gunshot victim was pronounced dead after MDA paramedics attempted to revive him on the way to the hospital.
