A 19-year-old man is in serious condition after being stabbed repeatedly during
a fight that broke out early on Sunday on Ashdod’s Lido Beach.
Police
said the fight broke out at a party held on the beach, in which youths drank
heavily.
Magen David Adom paramedics found the man lying on the ground
with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to Kaplan Medical Center in
Rehovot.
Lachish police arrested two suspects on the scene, and opened an
intensive investigation that led to two more suspects being arrested.
An
unprecedented number of knife possession cases were opened by police in 2010 –
12,223 – compared to 11,302 in 2009, a rise of 8 percent, according to police
figures.
In January, then-Israel Police Insp.-Gen. David Cohen said,
however, that “compared to other societies, Israeli society is not
violent.
We have violence, but we are not a violent
society.
“Compared to OECD countries, the crime rate in Israel is a
little over the median rate,” Cohen said.
Eight days ago, a man in his
30s was seriously wounded when another man stabbed him in the neck in Beersheba
during a fight on Saturday night.
