Rabbi Feldman, the process of becoming a Jew -- a so-called convert -- in my Conservative, egalitarian shul in the U.S. Midwest takes about a year. It includes classes, study with a rabbi, profession of commitment and all the steps required by halacha, including mikva. Are you saying that the people who make it through this process are not Jews because my rabbi is a graduate of the (Conservative) Jewish Theological Seminary and not given smicha by an Orthodox rabbi?
Tell me: What procedures were required of Ruth, ancestor of King David?
