The duo of Cyril and Norma Kaufman snagged first-place honors in last week’s Israeli Pairs tournament, played under the auspices of the Israel Golf Federation and sponsored by American Express.
Qualifying rounds were played at both the Ga’ash and Caesarea golf clubs.
Fifteen pairs from each club reached the finals, which were played over two days at Caesarea and then at Ga’ash.
There was an exciting twist to the end of the tournament with two groups – the Kaufmans and Israeli golf champion Asaf Cohen with Tamir Gilat – tied on 79 stableford points after the conclusion of the two rounds.
The Kaufmans prevailed on the first playoff hole to take top spot. Yosi Roll and Sharon Fridman came in third.
Chairman of the Israel Golf Federation Avi Dagan presided over the awards ceremony and thanked all the players for participating in the tournament.
In other Ga’ash golf news, Greg Elliot grabbed first-place in the gross-score category of the November Monthly Medal by shooting a gross-77 on Wednesday morning.
Nearly 50 golfers participated in extremely warm conditions, with net prize in the A Division going to Meir Dor, followed by Amos Aharoni.
Ilan Mendelson, Eli Gitlin and Moshe Nessis all scored a net 74 in the B Division with Mendelson winning on the count-back and Gitlin taking second place.
The C Division was won by Meyer Iny, followed by Albert Levy.
Nearest-to-the-pin prizes, sponsored by the Greenfield at Ga’ash went to Eddy Hoffman and Gershon Feldman.
Also, Shmuel Merdler – playing in his regular Friday game – scored a hole-in-one on the par-3 9th hole, playing at 160 meters.
