The attacker reportedly vociferated antisemitic slander after which he stabbed the victim six times in the back. 

Paris has backed that initiative and diplomats have said they hoped that once its measures were in place it could speed up the European process.

The plan aims to end fighting between Hezbollah and Israel at the border. The hostilities have run in parallel to the Gaza war and are fueling concern of a ruinous, all-out confrontation.

European Union member states are divided on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and their response has mostly been to try to ease the humanitarian situation in the enclave.

While some countries enforce the mandatory wearing of traditional headwear, several European countries have banned it or are considering banning it in certain public areas.
