The IDF's operation to dismantle Hamas tunnels in Gaza has damaged a Commonwealth military cemetery, raising concerns about the preservation of war graves and the handling of sensitive sites.

In a statement, the IDF said the operative’s activity violated the ceasefire framework and posed a threat to Israel’s northern communities.

Statements from NCAG and Nickolay Mladenov came after Israeli strikes and Hamas tunnel activity raised concerns over ceasefire violations.

The underground tunnel, which was destroyed along with troops from the Yahalom unit, reportedly contained weapons and several rooms.

IDF soldiers destroyed a two-kilometer-long terror tunnel in northern Gaza as part of ongoing operations to dismantle Hamas infrastructure, the military said.

IDF forces also located approximately 10 mortar bombs hidden inside a children’s blanket in a residential building in the Beit Hanoun area.

The tunnel stretched approximately seven to ten kilometers, leading to dozens of living quarters and Hamas command posts.

Mediators conveyed the offer, which included a clause permitting return to Gaza if the terrorists disarm, to Hamas leaders, but received no answer, N12 reported.
