With schools and workplaces closed for the day, Election Day is an opportunity to relax and enjoy the best that Jerusalem has to offer.

1. Election Day at the Bloomfield Science Museum

Take a guided tour around the Science Museum given by members of the public who took part in a competition to be tour guides for a day. Chosen by a panel from the Science Museum, the selection of budding guides will take you through various interactive exhibits, displays and scientific demonstrations. Current highlights at the Museum include among others Innovations Inc., an exhibition that traces the sources of Israeli innovations, and Illusions that reveals the inner workings of the parts of the brain that cause us to accept illusions as reality. A trip to the Science Museum is always enriching, with an extra spirit of fun and surprise.

2. Zoo elections 2013

To give your kids the opportunity to get involved and vote this Election Day, head to the Biblical Zoo for an alternative type of election. The vote is centered around the Zoo's animals – species mentioned in the Bible and beyond. Children can puzzle over the female leadership of the lemurs, the leadership of the marsh aviary and much more and can feel empowered by making their voice and opinion heard. Other activities during the day include animal feeding, elephant training and more. Activities are weather permitting as make sure to check the weather reports before setting out for the day. Voting takes place during normal open hours.

3. Mix

Don't miss a breathtaking performance of the award-winning show MIX by Brazil’s leading dance group, the Deborah Colker Dance Group. Choreographer Deborah Colker is renowned for her magnificent choreography and was the writer, director and choreographer of the legendary Cirque du Soleil production, Ovo. MIX is the combination of Deborah Colker’s two first shows: VULCÃO and VELOX and was conceived for the Biennale de La Danse de Lyon in 1996. The show at the Jerusalem Theater is filled with passion and elegance and is guaranteed to be a wonderful way to spend your afternoon on Election Day.

In the morning between 11:00 and 13:00 there will be Tu Bishvat activities for kids with green-themed story hour and plays. The events may be in Hebrew but they are simple and engaging and even non Hebrew speakers should get a lot out of them. Admission is NIS 30 per child and free for the accompanying adult. Then, in the evening (18:00 – 20:00) theater group Incubator will perform a hilarious improv performance The Cabinet: Elections on current events in Israel (Hebrew). The show is geared to Hebrew speakers and those in the know about Israeli politics and its nuances.
