In Kabul, the markets are bustling as Afghan Muslims stock up on supplies in anticipation of Ramadan. Buying fresh dates, prayer beads and other supplies ahead of the holy month. Muslims worldwide observe the month by fasting from sun up to sundown.Many are doing their shopping early because of an expected increase in prices during the holy month.Muslims worldwide observe the month by fasting from sun up to sundown.In conflict areas such as Misrata, Libya, where supplies are already scarce -- things are only expected to get worse.Many in both Afghanistan and Libya say they hope the holy season brings an end to the violence in their regions."We hope this month of Ramadan will be different to the more than 40 Ramadans before it. We never had our Ramadan with our Muslim countries and this Ramadan, God willing, it will be with the other countries at the beginning of Ramadan, ending of Ramadan and celebrating our Eid God willing," said Misrata local Muftaah Abdul-Hamid.Ramadan begins on Monday August 1st.
