After years of dominating the smartwatch market, Apple is preparing for a broad push into AI-powered wearable computing. According to a Bloomberg report, the company is accelerating development of three different products – smart glasses, an AI pin, and AirPods with cameras – all of which will connect to the iPhone and work with a more advanced, smarter version of Siri that is currently in development. The common idea behind all of them is simple but ambitious: No longer just a voice assistant that waits for a command, but a system that sees and hears the world alongside the user and responds accordingly. To understand where Apple is headed, let’s break down what’s expected for each product.
Smart Glasses: Meta’s Upcoming Competitor
The most intriguing product on the list is the smart glasses, designed to compete with Meta’s equivalent product. Unlike the heavy Vision Pro headsets, these are glasses without a display on the lenses, focusing on voice interface and high-quality materials. The glasses will feature an advanced camera system, including a distance-measuring sensor similar to the LiDAR technology in the iPhone, and will allow users to ask Siri questions about what they see in front of them – from translating signs to adding events to a calendar from a physical ad. Production is expected to begin at the end of 2026, aiming for a 2027 launch.
AI Pin: A Personal Assistant on Your Clothing
Alongside the glasses, Apple is exploring a completely new category: The “AI Pin” that can be attached to a shirt or worn as a necklace. The device, currently in early development, is described as “eyes and ears” for the iPhone. The pin will include a low-resolution camera and microphone, with most of the heavy processing done on the phone itself to maintain low energy consumption. The goal is to allow continuous interaction with AI without holding the phone, although the company has not yet finalized whether the device will reach mass production.
AirPods with Cameras
The company’s popular headphones are also expected to receive a major upgrade with the integration of small cameras into their design. This development is at a more advanced stage than the AI pin and may be revealed as early as this year. The cameras in the AirPods are not meant for selfies but to collect visual data for the voice assistant so it can provide context about the user’s surroundings, assist in more accurate walking navigation, or recognize people nearby.
Voice Assistant and Smart Home
All these devices will rely on a new, advanced version of Siri, which is reportedly becoming a sophisticated chatbot based on Google’s models and is expected to appear in iOS 27. Beyond wearable products, Apple plans to expand its presence at home with smart displays that include a robotic arm and compact security sensors, as part of the broader vision of AI accompanying the user every moment of the day.
