Apple is preparing for its next major step in the world of artificial intelligence, and it seems that this time the goal is not only bug fixes, but a dramatic expansion of the toolbox available to users. According to a Bloomberg report, the next software versions – iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 – will bring with them a deep change in the way we interact with our devices, from editing photos in the gallery to the way the voice assistant "Siri" understands and executes commands.

The most significant news concerns the photography and editing experience. While until now Apple's Photos app has offered standard tools such as adjusting contrast, saturation and filters, the new update will introduce generative AI-based tools. The familiar tool "Clean Up", which allows removing objects from the frame, will become part of a broader set of tools under the Apple Intelligence brand.

Among the new tools expected to be added are "Extend", which will allow extending the background of an image using artificial intelligence; "Enhance", which will automatically improve lighting and image quality; and "Reframe", a tool designed mainly for spatial photos that will allow changing the shooting angle and perspective after the photo has already been taken. This move is intended to narrow the gap with major competitors, Google and Samsung, which already offer more advanced and extreme editing capabilities, such as Google's Magic Editor.

Beyond the visual side, the revolution also reaches Siri. Reports indicate that Apple will launch a new version of the voice assistant based on Google's Gemini model. In addition, the company plans to launch a standalone Siri app and integrate an AI-based search engine within its built-in applications. This represents a fundamental shift in approach for Apple, which usually prefers to keep its systems closed, but now understands that it must adopt external technologies in order to remain relevant in the artificial intelligence arms race.

The company is expected to unveil most of these innovations during its annual developer conference (WWDC), which will take place on June 8.
