One of Xiaomi's consistent traditions in recent years is launching a T model a few months after introducing its flagship series. This is usually an updated version based on the company's premium devices, but it adds new improvements and aims to provide what Xiaomi has always tried to offer in this series – as many capabilities as possible, for as little money as possible. This is also the reason why, over the years, the T series has become one of the most popular from the Chinese manufacturer.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro continues exactly that same tradition. It comes with updated hardware, a new 7,000mAh battery, and the Dimensity 9500 chipset, alongside an upgraded camera array and other changes under the hood. However, unlike previous generations, this time the price tag in Israel – NIS 3,049 – raises an interesting question: Does the T series still manage to maintain its reputation as a "flagship device at a sane price," or is it also starting to get a bit too close to premium territory? We checked.

Design and screen
At first glance, the Xiaomi 17T Pro does not try to reinvent itself. In fact, it looks almost identical to the previous generation, with the same familiar design language and the same premium feel in the hand. While the larger battery increased the weight to 219 grams, in daily use this is a difference that is hard to notice. The quad-camera unit still protrudes from the back of the device, but this time it feels slightly less polished. While in the previous model the transition between the camera module and the body was more natural and harmonious, here the design is a bit coarser and less unique compared to competitors like OPPO and Vivo.

The review unit that came to us in blue still manages to add a bit of character. The glass back features a pleasant matte finish to the touch, with the color extending to the aluminum frame as well. The flat sides include rounded edges that prevent the device from feeling too sharp in the palm of your hand, while the power and volume buttons are located in a standard, comfortable position on the right side. At the bottom, you will find the USB-C port and the SIM tray (yes, there is also an eSIM), while the fingerprint sensor under the screen is still located too low for our taste and requires a slightly unnatural movement of the thumb.

On the front is a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen, which remains unchanged from the previous generation. It offers a 120Hz refresh rate and high brightness that allows for comfortable use even under direct sunlight. Support for HDR content is good, colors are rich, and the screen maintains high readability under almost all lighting conditions. In addition, there is also Gorilla Glass 7i here, as expected, along with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

Performance
On paper, the Xiaomi 17T Pro does not come with a Snapdragon chip, a fact that might cause some users to raise an eyebrow. In practice, this has almost no significance. MediaTek's new Dimensity 9500 provides excellent performance, and the device feels fast and smooth in every usage scenario. Switching between apps is instantaneous, multitasking does not challenge it, and even heavy games and demanding applications run without any special problems.

Alongside the new chip, the device is equipped with fast LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage, a combination that contributes to a general feeling of responsiveness throughout use. Even under heavy loads, the 17T Pro manages to maintain stable performance without suffering from noticeable slowdowns or stutters. However, it is important to note that during prolonged gaming sessions or particularly demanding tasks it definitely warms up, but not beyond what we are used to seeing from other flagship devices on the market. Fortunately, the heating does not harm performance and is not felt to a degree that interferes with the user experience.

The bottom line is: Anyone who is worried about the absence of a Snapdragon processor can rest easy. Xiaomi and MediaTek have managed to deliver a very powerful package here, which provides a fast, stable, and reliable user experience in almost any scenario.

Huge battery
If there is one upgrade that stands out above all others in the Xiaomi 17T Pro, it is undoubtedly the battery. Xiaomi integrated a new silicon-carbon battery here with a capacity of 7,000mAh – the largest the company has offered to date in a smartphone. In daily use, the result is particularly impressive: Even after a busy day that included navigation, prolonged shooting, and intensive use of social networks, enough energy remained to continue until the end of the day without worry. With more moderate use, you can easily reach two days between charges, a figure not often seen in this category.

When it comes to charging as well, Xiaomi continues to deliver the goods. The included charger supports fast charging of up to 100W and fills the battery in less than 45 minutes. This means that there is no real need to leave the device plugged into electricity overnight. Alongside this, the device also supports wireless charging at 50W and reverse charging for supported devices. The bottom line is: This is one of the most impressive smartphones today for anyone looking for a combination of long battery life and exceptionally fast charging.

Photography
The camera array of the Xiaomi 17T Pro includes a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, and a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. In practice, the main camera is the highlight here and delivers excellent photos in almost all lighting conditions. The colors are vivid, the level of detail is high, and the dynamic range is wide, so that even complex scenes with bright and dark areas look well-balanced. The final result is pleasing to the eye and looks relatively natural, without exaggerated processing.

The telephoto camera is also impressive and manages to produce sharp and detailed photos at 5x optical zoom. It is especially useful for remote shots and provides consistent results even when lighting conditions are less than ideal. In addition, it performs well in portrait shots and allows for successful separation between the subject and the background. On the other hand, the wide-angle camera is the weaker link in the array, and even if it provides good results in most situations, the gap between it and the other two cameras is noticeable. The selfie camera provides reasonable results for daily use, and is even a bit disappointing due to over-processing of the images.

The bottom line
The Xiaomi 17T Pro continues the tradition of the T series and offers a very balanced package that includes an excellent screen, strong performance, good cameras, and above all an extraordinary battery that manages to differentiate it from most competitors. Throughout the testing period, it provided a fast, stable, and enjoyable user experience, without stutters and without unpleasant surprises. It may not bring a major revolution compared to the previous generation, but it definitely polishes and improves the familiar formula.

The main problem is the price. At NIS 3,049, it no longer feels like the same "deal of the year" that the T series used to be. And yet, if you are looking for a flagship device in almost every aspect, with some of the best battery life we have encountered this year and exceptionally fast charging, the 17T Pro definitely delivers the goods.
