Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government may attempt to “sabotage” the upcoming elections, the leader of The Democrats party, Yair Golan, warned at the Movement for Quality Government’s first Liberal Congress at Expo Tel Aviv on Wednesday.
Golan urged a mass volunteer operation to safeguard ballot integrity, and said his party would assemble “eyes and ears in every polling station” and defend the Central Elections Committee and the courts from improper pressure.
He linked his remarks to the burial of hostage Ran Gvili earlier in the day, calling for public resolve to ensure transparent and on-time elections.
Golan alleged that the government would “falsify, intimidate and lie” to harm the purity of the vote, asserting that any attempt to delay the election under a “security emergency” must be resisted.
He pledged to build a nationwide monitoring network, deploy observers “in every precinct,” and shield election officials from political interference.
Golan calls for loyalty to law, not ministers evading accountability
Golan called on public servants, police, and civil servants to show loyalty to the law rather than “any minister seeking to evade accountability.”
He said The Democrats would seek the Justice and National Security portfolios after the vote and advance a constitution to “entrench Israel’s democratic foundations.”
Golan concluded by promising that his party would “be the shield of Israeli democracy and the truth,” saying volunteers would be trained to document irregularities and support lawful conduct at polling stations. He said, “We will ensure the elections are held on time, fair and transparent, and free of intimidation.”
