Iron Dome intercepts rocket fired toward Jerusalem
Rocket alert sirens sound in Beit Shemesh, Abu Ghosh and other areas surrounding the capital; no immediate reports of injury, damage.
The Iron Dome defense system intercept a rocket fired from Gaza toward the Jerusalem area on Sunday night, the IDF confirmed. No injuries or damage were initially reported.

Rocket alert sirens sounded in Beit Shemesh, Abu Ghosh and other areas surrounding Jerusalem on Sunday night.

Mortar shells made up the overwhelming majority of the projectiles fired into Israel out of Gaza on Sunday, accounting for at least 80 out of 117 firings, according to the IDF Spokesperson's Office.

The IDF said there were 108 impacts found in Israel, and that 10 rockets were shot down by the Iron Dome.

Projectiles continued to rain down on Israel on Sunday from Gaza with a mortar shell seriously injuring two people at the Erez Border Crossing with Israel. MDA was treating a third victim in moderate condition at the scene.  

Following the attack, the Defense Ministry decided to close down the crossing. The IDF struck a launcher used by Hamas to fire on the crossing.

Earlier in the day, a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed in open territory in the greater Tel Aviv area.

An explosion was heard in the city just before noon, however no rocket alert siren was sounded.

Rocket sirens blared in southern Israel in areas adjacent to Gaza as well as in Ashdod and Ashkelon throughout the day.

The IDF continued to strike targets in Gaza, hitting 30 terror targets in Gaza by around noon on Sunday. The military also confirmed that it targeted three Palestinian terror operatives earlier in the day.
