German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said on Wednesday that if the cease-fire holds, it will be a "great relief to us all."
Responding to the cease-fire announcement between Israel and Hamas, Westerwelle said: "I welcome the announcement of a ceasefire. If this ceasefire holds, it would be a great relief to us all, but above all to the people in Israel and Gaza. All sides now have the responsibility for this ceasefire to become a stable truce."
He added: "We will do what we can to support a stabilization of the situation."
