Environmental Protection Ministry inspectors and the Green Police will receive arrest powers in certain types of cases in the near future, the ministry said Wednesday.

The Public Security Ministry will grant the Green Police and the Sea and Beaches Branch arrest powers regarding illegal disposal of waste, dumping waste in the sea and dumping oil in the sea.

A bill to grant arrest powers to ministry inspectors for all types of environmental crime is in the final stages of approval for second and third readings in the Knesset Internal Affairs and Environment Committee.
