Hadash MK asks for Christmas tree in Knesset

A Christmas tree should be placed in the Knesset for the first time ahead of this week's holiday, Hadash MK Hanna Sweid, who is Christian, wrote Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein over the weekend.
Placing a tree in the parliament would be an important gesture to Christians in Israel and around the world, Sweid wrote, especially after so-called "price-tag" vandalism against churches. Sweid added that in the United States, many American Jews have Christmas trees.
In addition to marking Jewish traditions, the speaker of the Knesset takes part in Muslim observances at the Knesset, such as traditional fast-breaking meals during Ramadan. Edelstein's spokesman said he would respond to Sweid's request Sunday.
