Home front defense minister says Kerry not objective

Home Front Defense Minister Gilad Erdan criticized US Secretary of State John Kerry at a conference in Jerusalem on Monday in response to remarks Kerry made about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict over the weekend.

"Kerry is not a fair or objective mediator," he said. "American mediation is putting the pressure on the prime minister and on the Israeli government and not on the Palestinian side."

At the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Kerry said, “Today’s status quo, absolutely to a certainty, I promise you 100 percent, cannot be maintained. It is not sustainable. It is illusionary."

Erdan said that the United States is mistaken in its understanding of the situation in the Middle East, and added that while the US is our greatest friend, sometimes there are disagreements between marriage partners.

"From a bystander's point of view, it looks like John Kerry is actually fanning the flames of the threats, and that the US along with the EU are playing 'good cop-bad cop' with Israel," he said.
