The Israel Electric Corporation on Thursday asked the public to conserve electricity during an ongoing heat wave in hopes of preventing blackouts over the coming week.

With careful usage of electricity, "it is possible to reduce power outages,"  Energy and Water Minister Uzi Landau said Thursday morning. He warned against using heavy-duty appliances during the afternoon hours.

As temperatures surge during over the next few days, the IEC expected electricity demand to be extremely high, which may necessitate forced blackouts.
