J'lem City Council nixes plan for secular culture center

The Jerusalem City Council Thursday decided against the construction of a military preparatory program and a secular cultural center that were promoted by Mayor Nir Barkat in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Kiryat Yuval, Army Radio reported Friday.
According to the report, Haredi faction as well as Likud, Yisrael Beytenu and the National Religious Party (Mafdal) voted against the plan.
The plan's proposal was reportedly due to arrive to the Jerusalem District Planning and Building Committee, which has the authority to overturn the decision.
