Jordan nixes law offering rapists immunity if they wed victim

Jordan's Parliament voted on Tuesday to repeal a highly controversial clause in the penal code that let rapists escape punishment if they marry their victim.
The law was struck down by a narrow majority to the sound of cheers from the gallery.
Until now a loophole to the code, which stipulates a prison sentence for rapists, suspended any criminal prosecution if the two people involved get married for a minimum of three years.
