Jordan's King Abdullah hosted Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Amman on Thursday, calling the Palestinian issue the core of conflict in the region and reiterating his support for the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as its capital, the official Petra News Agency reported.

Abdullah was quoted by Petra as saying that "Jordan will continue its support to the Palestinians to ease their suffering through providing them with every possible assistance in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip."
