Kadima MK Avi Duan agreed to a proposal by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to join the government as the deputy social services and welfare minister. Duan is a veteran social worker. The move was part of an expected split of Kadima MKs who will leave the party to join the Likud.

As part of the split, Kadima MK Arieh Bibi, a former Jerusalem police official, will be appointed deputy public security minister.
