Peres meets US Defense Secretary Panetta at Pentagon

President Shimon Peres met with US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta after being received at a special ceremony at the Pentagon on Monday. Peres is on a multi-day visit to the US in which he is scheduled to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from US President Barack Obama.

Peres also took part in a roundtable discussion with US military chief Gen. Martin Dempsey and other senior US military officials.

Panetta said that it was a "great honor" to host Peres, praising the president for working to advance the cause of "peace and freedom."

The US secretary of defense said that the cooperation between the US and Israeli armies was stronger than it had ever been.
