The Egyptian diplomatic envoy to the Palestinian Authority was attempting to reach an informal "quiet in exchange for quiet" cease fire between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza, Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency reported on Wednesday.

Ambassador Yasser Osman said Egypt does not want the situation to further deteriorate and seemingly blaming Israel for the recent round of violence, called on it to halt its attacks on the Gaza Strip, according to the report.
