The Foreign Ministry has succeeded in preventing a meeting of states
which have signed the Geneva Convention, which could have resulted in a
public statement that Israel has violated the charter during Operation
Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip during 2009, Army Radio report Friday.
According to the report, Israeli embassies in Switzerland, New York and
various European capitals with help from Washington, were able to
diplomatically prevent the meeting in Switzerland. It was expected that
the meeting would conclude that Israel did not do enough to prevent
Palestinian civilian casualties during the 2009 war in Gaza.
Sources close to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman also succeeded in
preventing the establishment of the victim's compensation fund of those
injured in Cast Lead, which was decided by the UN Human Rights Council.
