Ministry issues rules on ID collection in response to hacks

Following a slew of hacking attacks against Israeli civilians, the Israeli Law, Information and Technology Authority (ILITA) issued a new prohibition on the collection of Israeli ID numbers without substantial justification.
The phenomenon of hackers attacking Israeli citizens for nationalist motives was introduced in January by a Saudi hacker, OxOmar, who posted the credit card details of hundreds of thousands of Israelis.
Israel has already taken action against the cyber threat, announcing in May that it had set up a government command to secure Israeli civilians and institutions against attacks.
