Welfare budget to increase by NIS 900 million

The Welfare Ministry’s budget will increase by NIS 600 million this year and by an additional NIS 300 million in 2014, the Knesset Finance Committee headed by Habayit Hayehudi MK Nissan Slomiansky, reported on Wednesday.
"I asked for additional funds and was responded to openly,” Welfare Minister Meir Cohen said in a statement, “There were no cuts, but additions.”“Our policy now is to make the state a locomotive,” Cohen added, “We need to lead. For years the ministry was not budgeted properly and people used to go to charities and to the mayor's office to receive NIS 100 for their holiday meals. It must not work this way."
