Environment Ministry cuts garbage dumped in Abu Dis

Environment Protection Ministry Director-General Alona Shefer-Karo announced on Sunday afternoon that beginning next week, the amount of waste from Jerusalem buried in the Abu Dis landfill will be limited to 750 tons daily, as per an October 10 decision made by Environment Minister Gilad Erdan. The ministry is aiming to curb the amount of environmental hazards currently burdening the city, a statement said.
In order to enable the city to withstand the costs of transporting waste to farther away location, Erdan turned to the Finance Ministry to acquire an additional budget of NIS 24 million for this purpose, according to the statement. From next week on, the amount of waste coming in to Abu Dis will be reduced to 1,000 tons daily (750 from Jerusalem), in October to 650 tons (400 from Jerusalem) and in April, to 300 tons (zero from Jerusalem), the ministry said
