Barak: Syria's Assad will fall within weeks

Syrian President Bashar Assad will fall "within weeks," Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Thursday during a meeting with his Japanese counterpart Naoki Tanaka in Tokyo.

During the meeting, Barak said that Israel was closely tracking possible arms transfers from Syria to Hezbollah and views such activity "gravely."

Turning to the recent spate of Iranian terror plots overseas and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's declaration on Wednesday of progress in Tehran's nuclear program, Barak said that the Islamic Republic is a danger to global stability and called on the world to unite to stop its pursuit of a nuclear weapon.

Barak arrived in Japan on Wednesday for a five day visit which will include talks with the top leadership in Tokyo.
