Medical resident group slams court's resignation injunction

Mirsham, the voluntary organization representing the medical residents, criticized on Sunday the National Labor Court injunction ordering 1,000 residents who signed letters of resignation to report to work.

"This is an unprecedented moral crisis in which thousands of doctors - those who resigned and those who did not - are crying out that they cannot perform their duties under the existing public health system," the organization said.

Hours after the ruling, Mirsham's chairman, Dr Yona Weissbuch, filed a personal resignation letter to the Beilinson Hospital, where he is training to be an ear, nose and throat specialist, Channel 2 reported.

"Currently, I am being forced to work for the next month in a place I don't want to. My resignation is unconditional and therefore stands," Weissbuch told Channel 2.
