Grunis slams Neeman for proposal to override Supreme Court

Supreme Court President Asher Grunis attacked Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman regarding his proposal to change the balance of power between the Supreme Court and the Knesset. Neeman recently proposed a law that would, among other things, permit the Knesset to override a Supreme Court ruling with a majority of only 65 Knesset members.

Grunis said that it was inappropriate that such a momentous law would be proposed without seeking feedback from him or other members of the Supreme Court, which he said was not done.

He referred to the proposal as a Canadian invention with no basis in most western nations, which even the Canadians do not actually use in practice.
