Medical students to ditch first day of classes

Students at all the medical schools in the country will not go to classes on Monday to demonstrate their support for medical residents who are demanding higher wages and better conditions. The residents have tried to resign collectively, but they have been barred from doing so by the National Labor Court.
The demonstration will be held outside Beit Ariela in Tel Aviv at 6 p.m. Monday. Medical schools usually open before the opening of the general academic year in the universities.
The Treasury had invited representatives of the young doctors for yet another negotiating session on Sunday, but the residents said they would not turn up because they understood that no new proposals would be raised. The residents plan to take the refusal to allow them to resign to the High Court of Justice.
