Quarries rehabilitated to prevent floods

Abandoned quarries in southern Israel’s Revivim, Secher, Beersheba and HaBesor stream beds are undergoing a rehabilitation process worth NIS 10 million, to prevent winter flooding.

Damaged during active mining the quarries led to seasonal drainage problems said the Quarry Rehabilitation Fund. “Mining has caused damage to nature and the landscape that has only worsened over the years,” said Yossi Wurzburger, chairman of the Quarry Rehabilitation Fund. “We are fulfilling our vision of returning nature to the community.”

Work restoring the quarries at the Revivim and Secher streams is already complete. The fund is also building a paved bicycle path near the Revivim stream.
