Yair Lapid slams gov't's temporary Tal Law replacement

The government's plans to continue authorizing the exemption of haredim from IDF service under the guise of slightly increasing the number of haredim doing civilian service is going against the court and "throwing sand in the eyes of the public," Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid said Sunday.Lapid was responding to a government decision to approve the enlistment of 1,300 yeshiva students for civilian service and officially recognize the move as an alternative to serving in the IDF."The Tal Law was cancelled four and a half months ago, and now the Netanyahu government is seeking to continue the intolerable situation where the whole community does not share the burden," Lapid said.Laid stated that Yesh Atid would not sit in a government that will not ensure that every citizen does service and is fully integrated into the labor market, according to the detailed plan that the party presented.
