TA Health Ministry discovers a health food store illegally selling prescription drugs in Ramat Aviv.

A large haul of prescription drugs was confiscated from the Neve Avivim Health Food Store in Ramat Aviv over the weekend by the Health Ministry’s Tel Aviv District Health Office, together with the police. None of the drugs seized – for pain, infections, erectile dysfunction, inflammation, hypertension, thyroid and hormone problems and more – may be sold outside a pharmacy.The health food store, located at 34 Yehuda Hanassi Street in north Tel Aviv, had been a subject of complaints to the ministry regarding a “health food store illegally selling prescription drugs.”A surprise visit by inspectors disclosed the illegal merchandise.The shop owner, Ram Friedman, is a pharmacist whose license to practice was recently confiscated, 18 months after he was accused of dealing in “second-hand prescription medications from unknown sources and selling them,” the ministry said on Monday.He also ran a pharmacy that was shut down by a Tel Aviv District Health Officer’s administrative order in 2009.The ministry said Friedman refused to give inspectors any information about where he obtained the drugs – which increased their suspicions that these were stolen or counterfeit.The ministry wishes to reminded the public that prescription drugs should never be purchased from health food stores.
