IDF: Deserter killed in crash not to receive army funeral

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said Sunday that the army would not provide Yair Sasson with a military funeral because he was a deserter. Sasson was killed in a motorbike accident over the weekend.

According to the IDF, because Sasson was listed as being AWOL before his accident he was not entitled to the honors accorded to serving soldiers.

Sasson, a 20-year-old from Beersheba, was riding his motorcycle Friday near the Negev mall when he lost control of his vehicle and was killed in the resulting crash.
