Parents want to bring attention to dangerous faulty roofing.

The Ashkelon parent's committee announced Tuesday that ten schools will not take part in Wednesday's Home Front drill because of a report that it would be dangerous to stay in the schools during a missile attack.The Home Front Command established that the school buildings had faulty roofing.Committee chairman Yaron Jibley said that the children do not need a drill to know how to hide underneath a desk, which is what they were forced to do during actual missile attacks in the past.A petition from the parents and the city of Ashkelon against the State and the Defense Ministry is currently being reviewed in the Supreme Court.The Defense Ministry promised NIS 22 million to build bomb shelters at 10 schools and 22 preschools.An advisor to Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilna'i was quoted by Israel Radio as saying that it is a shame that the parents are choosing not to participate in the drill in order to raise awareness on the issue.Vilna'i is expected to meet with the mayor of Ashkelon next week to discuss the issue.
