An MRI or PET/CT scanning machine for every hospital in the country is the goal of Deputy Health Minister Ya’acov Litzman, who said so on Sunday during a tour of Carmel Medical Center in Haifa.
Today, there is only one MRI (magnetic resonance instrument) scanner inall of the North (at Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center), and it serves acatchment area with a million residents.
Litzman added that there is an immediate need for 1,600 hospital beds around the country plus 400 intensive care beds.
“We are waiting for the end of the government freeze on governmentmanpower slots, and then we will present a request for another 1,600beds, which are so necessary,” he said.
The Treasury is the roadblock to the expansion of hospital beds and the accompanying medical manpower.
