Former prime minister Ehud Olmert will remain at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer over the next few days to recover under medical supervision before he returns to prison, sources close to him said Wednesday.The sources said Olmert had undergone a series of tests. An echocardiogram conducted at the hospital showed that Olmert did not have a heart attack after he complained of chest pains and those who visited expressed concern that he could soon have a heart attack if he was not hospitalized.After being examined by a doctor at Ma’asiyahu Prison in Ramle, where he is serving a 27-month sentence for two counts of bribery in the Holyland real estate corruption affair, and for fraud, breach of trust and tax evasion in the Talansky money envelopes case, Olmert was transferred to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. The hospital said he is in stable condition.Doctors at Sheba want to determine why Olmert has lost some six kilograms in recent weeks. The former prime minister recovered from a previous bout of prostate cancer.Olmert has a parole hearing on June 29 to decide whether he will be granted early release from prison after serving two-thirds of his sentence.Eliyahu Kamisher contributed to this report.
