Schalit envoy's tenure extended

Hagai Hadas will negotiate for the captive's release until June 2010.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu extended the tenure of Hagai Hadas, his special envoy to negotiations on the release of captive IDF soldier St.-Sgt. Gilad Schalit until June 2011.
Hadas, a former senior Mossad official, was appointed as Netanyahu's special envoy to Hamas-Egypt talks on Schalit in May 2009. He will receive NIS 335,472 for his additional year of service.

Hadas will have the same contract as in his first year of work. According to this contract, he will be paid according to hours worked, with a budget designated for 1,000 hours and an option for more hours.. In the past year, the Schalit envoy reported 1,8000 hours; therefore, the budget in his new contract is for 1,500 hours as a consultant.
 
The previous envoy, Ofer Dekel, volunteered for the role when Ehud Olmert was prime minister. Netanyahu, however, decided that Hadas would work for the state under contract.
In the statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu said the effort to free Schalit have been non-stop, even if they are not always reported in the press. In addition, this is Hadas's only job.
"The prime minister told Hagai Hadas to make every effort to return Gilad Schalit to his family and his nation, without any limit on hours worked," the Prime Minister's office said.
